Together we can build an Internet for everyone.

We believe in the Internet.

For over 30 years we’ve been working to create an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet for everyone. As a global charitable organization, we work with our community and partners to protect access to the Internet and bring connectivity to some of the most remote parts of the world.

We believe Internet access is everyone’s right. It connects people who would otherwise be unconnected. It opens up huge opportunities for education, for collaboration, and for creativity. And it is a powerful equalizer, giving a voice to communities who might otherwise be voiceless.

But today, more than 2.6 billion people lack access to the Internet and the opportunities it provides. We want to change that. Donate now.

Donate to keep the Internet open, safe, and secure.

Lack of connectivity is just one of the issues keeping people shut out of the Internet. Internet shutdowns and censorship leave millions of people disconnected. Privacy concerns and fear of the digital world undermine trust in online spaces, and too many women and girls must fight for equal access to the web.

We are at risk of an Internet that favors the few over the many, limiting opportunities and access to information.

Unlike many charities, our operating costs are fully covered by a not-for-profit organization, meaning 100% of your donation directly funds efforts to ensure the Internet is for everyone.

Our work is making a difference.

Together with our global community of supporters, we’re working to grow the Internet and safeguard it for future generations.

We need your help to:

  • Empower more people to drive change in their communities
  • Advocate against harmful policies that threaten our privacy, freedom, and access to the Internet
  • Connect remote areas to the Internet, opening up a world of opportunities
  • Advance the development of Internet infrastructure and standards
  • Support initiatives that promote digital literacy, equality, and innovation across the globe

The Internet is connection.

In 2023, Manipur in India was plunged into darkness. Amid escalating inter-community violence, the government ordered an Internet shutdown, cutting off millions from the digital world overnight. Without access, families and friends lost contact, students were cut off from education, access to basic services was blocked and misinformation spread. Learn about Internet shutdowns.

The Internet is education.

In the shadow of Mount Everest, in the villages of Khunde and Khumjung, students used to learn about the Internet only from textbooks. But now, thanks to a local initiative supported by the Internet Society, they're finally connected to the rest of the world. Read the story of Khunde and Khumjung.
